Queen Elizabeth II, 1926 -2022

The Queen ruled for longer than any other Monarch in British history, becoming a much loved and respected figure across the globe. Over 70 years, Her Majesty was a dedicated Head of the Commonwealth, linking more than two billion people worldwide.


When Her Majesty acceded to the throne aged just 25, her life changed overnight from that of a young naval wife and mother to a busy Head of State. She was to become known for her sense of duty and her devotion to a life of service, and was an important figurehead for the UK and the Commonwealth during times of both crisis and celebration.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was the longest-serving royal consort in world history, serving for 73 years. His marriage to the then Princess Elizabeth marked the start of a remarkable story of dedication and service. Their love story began when they first met in the 1930s, when Elizabeth was 13.


He played a major role in a number of activities and initiatives, most notably The Duke of Edinburgh's Awards Scheme which helped develop the lives and spirits of so many young people since its inception in 1956.


Prince Philip died in Windsor Castle at the age of 99 on the morning of 9 April 2021, two months before his 100th birthday.
